Mpowering Global Students to Become Transgender Feminists Dear Members, Our new members at the Alumni Relations Council of our community are: David Abell from our local school of note and our community college freshman of note, Rebecca Hamel. Rebecca is a 21-year-old Latina social workers woman; her university degrees include counseling; she is a social worker and intern. Rebecca works with public housing for her children, which helps them succeed in their first term in school; she is also a teacher and volunteer; her college students work individually in a social work program. Being a trans person means seeing the community begin to move in with respect and compassion and giving back to their communities through volunteer activities. Steven Miller from the Georgia College of Life and work, and one of our LGBT campus sisters, is now lead volunteer for transgender students and our community college freshmen at the Covington Campus Center, and we are grateful to Steven for helping us to define gender-based employment with us. Ellen Gilroy from the Emory University Equality Program is now lead social worker and volunteer for transgender students; she helped us participate in a summer internship party for transgender prisoners in April. And we thank the members of the Gay Pride Caucus for being warm and supportive. Because of the time we have, other LGBT students working for trans people were working on a community center as well. For us, this is a win-win situation. We are thankful to our students for their example, as well as to our faculty and staff for being on time.

Here is one LGBTQ+ member whose passion for trans was originally due to her work for us at Covington and her experiences at the Covington Campus Center – we had to have the outside meeting at Covington.
